Tottenham Hotspur announced the signing of Barbora Votikova for the club’s women’s team on Thursday.
The 26-year-old Czech goalkeeper has signed a contract which will run until 2025 and will wear the number one shirt.
Votikova started her career at Viktoria Plzen, where she made her senior debut in 2013.
After one season with the first team, Votikova left for Slavia Prague where she stayed for seven years. During that time, she helped Slavia secure four Women’s First League title and a Czech Women’s Cup. She also played the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League on three occasions (2015/16, 2017/18 and 2018/19).
In 2021, she joined Paris Saint-Germain and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League with the French side in 2021-22.
“It feels amazing. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a couple of months now and finally I’m here,” she beamed in her first interview with SPURSPLAY. “It’s going to be a big challenge and (it’s the) experience that I’ve been seeking. This league is the centre of women’s football now and I want to be a part of it.
“It’s a big honour to leave a Czech mark here in this league. Hopefully I’m going to bring all the experiences from my teams and national team during my career. I’m very excited to start the season.
“I’m excited to see Becky when she comes back from the World Cup because she’s going to bring a lot of experience from there. I believe we’ll be able to push each other to be the best.
She is also a YouTube star, who has almost 500,000 subscribers, and has experience as an author and actress.
“Running my YouTube channel, sometimes I’m doing vlogs from my life,” she explained about her life away from football. “When I was younger, I was aiming to become an actress, but I was never successful, so I started to create my own comedy skits and easy movies. I’ve been doing it ever since then.”
